GAEC LE CRIOU - SAMOËNS

Introduction

A family dairy producer, the GAEC Le Criou (Aurore Delesmillieres and Bernard Mogenet) was set up in 2008 producing cheeses from unpasteurised whole cow's milk.

The milk comes from their herd of around fifty cows, fed on fodder and grass from their pastures.

Most of the milk produced is sold to the Samoëns cooperative for the manufacture of reblochon. Some of the milk is used to make fresh cream cheeses on the farm. Traditional local good quality cheeses made on site. 

Fresh cheeses

4 types of fresh cheeses are made :

- Farm white cheese : hand moulded and sold in their cheese-sieves

- Crioutin : plain small round fresh cream cheese

- Fraicheur de Criou : fresh cream cheese with herbs (garlic ans chives)

- Bourgeoise : plain fresh cheese in pyramid form.

 

It takes about 50cl of milk to produce one Crioutin.

The public can buy the cheeses at the farm as well as in the shops, restaurants and holiday centres in the area.

Where to find them

Farm shop open from Monday to Saturday from 5.45pm to 7pm

- Getting there :

The farm is 5 minutes from Samoëns Village. Head for Samoëns 1600, then turn left towards "Chez Renand" or follow the signposts "Fromage frais fermiers - Le Criou".

- Where to buy the products :

The cheeses are sold in minimarts in the area : Samoëns Casino, Refuge des Saveurs, Sixt Sherpa, Morilon minimart, Samoëns Cooperative, Mieussy Cooperative, Fromages de Pierre in Cluses, etc...

You can also find the cheeses in certain dishes in Samoëns'restaurants : at Le 8M des Monts, La Clarine, La Mezzanine, Le Pré d'Oscar etc.
